25 Brethren, pray for us.

26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

Verse 25 is self-explanatory. So is verse 26 if you retain the word “HOLY” instead of the corrupt Roman Catholic substitution “the kiss of peace.” It was the “Father of Peace” (ABSALOM, 2 Sam. 18:18) who gave that kiss. The Antichrist will give you the Judas kiss (see John 17:12 and Rev. 9:11 in those Commentaries) since he comes “peaceably” (see p. 87) and destroys the world’s population by “PEACE” (see p. 86). The “kiss of peace” comes from Tertullian (160­–220) and is found in the New English Bible (1970). Since Clement of Alexandria called it a “mystic kiss,” the first great Christian scholar who believed in the “verbally inspired originals” (Origen: 184–254) called it “the mystical kiss of peace” and held it to be part of your WORKS to earn salvation (The History of the New Testament Church, 1980, p. 75).

Origen was the bird that furnished Eusebius and Pamphilus with the material for the construction of Sinaiticus and Vaticanus: see any work by Miller, Hoskier, Hills, or Burgon.

Simon Peter calls the kiss “a kiss of charity” (1 Pet. 5:14). This kiss was normally a cheek-to-cheek kiss; males with males, females with females.

There are no church congregations in America that practise verse 26 as a congregational activity. You should remember and call it to the attention of every Campbellite (Church of Christ) “elder” you meet. They are the birds who talk about their church being the only Scriptural New Testament church because they “speak where the Scriptures speak” and are “silent where the Scriptures are silent.” They are as silent as a sick sow in a snow storm at 1 Thessalonians 5:26 and have been since 1800.

In verse 27, the “brethren” are called “holy.” Note that in the New Testament the following items are NOT “holy.”

1. Sacraments.

2. The “Holy” See.

3. The Pope (any Pope).

4. The Rosary.

5. Water.

6. Wafers.

7. Any kind of clothing.

8. Mary.

9. The Koran.

10. Any “feast.”

11. “Ramadan,” Mecca, or Medina.

12. Rome.

13. Pilgrimages.

14. Beads.

15. Tombs or graveyards.

16. Incense or chalices.

17. Candles or “offices.”

There are some things called “holy,” but they are things like these:

1. The Scriptures.

2. The Spirit of God (the Holy Ghost).

3. The priesthood of all believers.

4. The Mount of Transfiguration.

5. Our hands and our faith.

6. The Old Testament covenant and prophets.

7. The Old Testament ground on Sinai (Acts 7:33).

8. God’s child (Acts 4:27).

9. The apostles.

10. The “commandment” (2 Pet. 2:21).

11. The Angel of God (Acts 10:22).

12. God Himself (Rev. 4:8).

“Never-ever” is the word “holy” attached to a Catholic priest, a Catholic Pope, the Virgin Mary, church ordinance or “sacraments,” or any “See” in Rome. There is nothing “holy” about Rome, Lourdes, Guadeloupe, Medina, Mecca, Ramadan, Easter, or Christmas; and there is certainly nothing “holy” about any Catholic candle, cup, “grail,” chalice, robe, costume, church building, altar, altar rail, or Catholic “tradition.
